THE SQUARE
Renowned chef Philip Howard has reissued his iconic The Square: The Cookbook, in which Bodo Sperlein’s tableware designs play a prominent role in presenting his beautifully crafted dishes.
The two volumes - The Sweet and The Savory - are now being released for the final time. From the Golden Forest and Gold Leaf to the Golden Pearls and White Sculptural collections, Sperlein’s designs provide the perfect canvas for Howard’s culinary artistry.
As a bespoke commission for The Square Restaurant in 2012, Bodo Sperlein created the Square Plate - a striking piece designed to make a visual statement even before the first course was served.
With a brief to craft a strong, artistic setter plate that would captivate guests at first glance, Bodo drew inspiration from abstract cubism, resulting in a series of sculptural forms that balance geometry with expressive artistry.
“One of the greatest challenges facing any cook is how to maintain a sense of creativity and adventure”
