Morath Walls

For the MENU 2026 exhibition during Milan Design Week 2026, Bodo Sperlein transformed a historic church space on Via Solferino through a carefully considered architectural intervention. Conceived as a temporary installation, the redesign appeared seamlessly integrated within the existing architecture, creating a dialogue between past and present through materiality, proportion, and atmosphere.

To create this temporary space, Morath implemented this vision with bespoke metal structures and architectural panels that redefined the spatial experience. A layered palette of metallic finishes, from mirrored and brushed stainless steel to textured and patinated surfaces, created shifting reflections and changing perceptions throughout the space.

Particularly distinctive were the zigzag-shaped stainless steel wall panels, polished to a mirror finish on one side and matt brushed along the edges. The interplay of reflection, depth, and geometry introduced a sculptural architectural language that emphasised the precision and versatility of the material.

The installation also included a stepped kitchen sink designed exclusively by Bodo Sperlein for Morath, embodying the studio’s material-led approach and interest in elevating functional objects into sculptural design pieces.

The collaboration highlighted a shared commitment to craftsmanship, technical innovation, and bespoke production, demonstrating how architectural metalwork can be used to create immersive contemporary environments with a strong sense of permanence and identity.
