In 2014, Bodo Sperlein was appointed creative consultant for the eminent Japanese fine bone china brand, Nikko.
Founded in 1908 in Kanazawa, Nikko has a global reputation in producing the highest quality of bone china tableware. Internationally recognised for their distinguished Japanese designs and exceptional use of materials, Bodo Sperlein designed several ranges for Nikko to launch a fresh direction for the brand.
Inspired by the abundant history of the company itself, these designs unite both eastern and western aesthetics and give a contemporary viewpoint of Nikko’s in-house style. After witnessing first-hand the skills of the individual makers whose techniques have been handed down through generations of Nikko’s craftsmen, we felt these longstanding production methods deserved wider global recognition.
Through European exhibitions, we broadened Nikko’s global presence and opened the company up to a prospective European audience.
Furthermore to designing these collections, we provided art direction, brand consultancy and implemented the marketing strategy for the launch of the ranges. This included the design of the exhibition stand, the collection catalogues, product images and a website.
